Amanita flavoconia Var. Amber

Photos By: Chris Matherly, Georgia 2005

Here in the South East, this darker variety abounds. These are much more amber in color, not at all yellow capped. I have dried and sent a sample of this to Dr. Rod Tulloss. This is a much smaller species than the A. Ceasaer group, usually not topping over 4-5 inches. I have found them in mixed hardwoods and pines, and in several different woods here in Georgia.
