Description:
Common Name: n/a. Cap: bright orange- red, small 1/2"-1", depressing in the center, and may become funnel shaped. Wavy to rounded margin Flesh: Fragil, thin, orange-red. Fragrant fruity odor. Gills: Lighter than cap, blunt, thick, branched, widely spaced and continue down the stalk. Stalk: Thin, same color as cap, smooth. Fruiting: Scattered and clustered on soil. Pines and Oaks/ etc. Summer and Fall. Edibility: A choice edible mushroom, however, because of its size, one would have to gather a lot to concoct a meal. Usually found growing near the common Chanterelle, Cantharellus cibarius. Note: These were all found in Twiggs County, Georgia in September 2004.
