Notice the smoothness underneath, and lack of gills.

Older specimens do develop a faint gill pattern.

Description:

Common Name: Smooth Chanterelle Cap: Yellow- orange 1-3", depressing in the center, and may become funnel shaped. Wavy to rounded margin Flesh:  Fragrant fruity odor. Gills:   Stalk:  Fruiting: Scattered and clustered on soil. Pines and Oaks/ etc. Summer and Fall. Edibility: A choice edible mushroom, Usually found growing near the common Chanterelle, Cantharellus cibarius. Note: These were all found in Columbus, Georgia on October 1st, 2004.
