Flora Associated With Morels
Hepaticas. When they are finished blooming, (they bloom very early), Then the Black Morels will just be emerging.
Trout Lily. These also are early bloomers. You may find an early Black Morel when these are blooming.

Bloodroot. When this common woodland flower is blooming, is another indicator that the Black Morels will be starting.
A lilac in bloom.... Time to start looking!

Mayapple. The second photo is early-on, and this stage of mayapple should coincide with Black Morels. The first and third photos, are when they are in bloom, and can be late sometimes, the Yellow Morels will be in full swing.
Redbud Tree. When these first bust open in bloom, you better be looking for the first Morels!
Dogwood Tree. When these begin to flower, after the Redbuds, you can find the Yellow Morels. I have found Blacks, Greys, Half-frees, and Yellows before the Dogwoods flower. Every season, the springtime weather will be different. This is just a simple indicator. Time to HUNT!

After White Trilliums have turned "old" and gone pink, is an indicator that Morel season is nearing an end. Go out and look for the Giant Yellow Morels now!
