Lactarius salmoneus

Photos By: Chris Matherly, Georgia 2005

These are a beautiful Lactarius with the contrasting bright Orange gills and latex. They are quite easily identified because of their size, which is small, about 1" to 1.5" caps. A very pleasant mushroomy smell. Mainly under pines in summer. Presumed edible, but you would have to collect a lot to make a meal because of their size.
